Four short sentences that say who you are: your name, where you come from, where you live, which languages you speak.
When you need it
- Meeting new people at a course or at work.
- Offices and forms ask the same things.

Examples
- Ich heiße Sara. Ich komme aus Marokko. — My name is Sara. I come from Morocco.
- Ich wohne in Berlin. — I live in Berlin.
Remember: aus = where you are from · in = where you live now.
Watch out: A few countries need an article: aus der Türkei, aus dem Irak.
Uses the ich-forms from Present tense — regular verbs.

Most countries have no article: aus Marokko, aus Syrien. A few have one: aus der Türkei, aus dem Irak, aus den USA. Learn these as whole phrases.

You are Sara. You come from Morocco and live in Berlin. Jonas starts talking to you.
- Jonas: Hallo! Ich bin Jonas. Wie heißt du? — Hi! I’m Jonas. What’s your name?
- You: Ich heiße Sara. — My name is Sara.
- Jonas: Freut mich, Sara! Woher kommst du? — Nice to meet you, Sara! Where are you from?
- You: Ich komme aus Marokko. Und du? — I’m from Morocco. And you?
- Jonas: Ich komme aus Hamburg. Wo wohnst du? — I’m from Hamburg. Where do you live?
- You: Ich wohne in Berlin. — I live in Berlin.
