This page explains what Wordnary stores about you, why, who helps us run it, and what you can ask us to do. We collect only what we need to run the app, keep your account safe and make the lessons better. We never sell your data.

Your account

  • Your email address and password (the password is stored encrypted by our login provider — we can never see it).
  • The name you choose in Settings (optional).
  • Your languages, level, the language you want explanations in, and your app settings.

Your learning

To show your progress and plan your reviews we store what you do in the app: lessons started and completed, practice and exam answers, Review answers, words you save or look up, reading and practice time, and phrases you mark. When you use “Say it”, we store the text the browser heard and the score — never a recording of your voice.

We also look at this data in summary — for example which grammar rules many learners find hard — to improve the lessons. Your level is only ever changed by you or a placement test, never automatically.

Online status

While you have the app open and are signed in, it tells our server about once a minute that you are online and which part of the app you are in (for example “Review”). Our team can see who is online, when you were last active and when you last signed in. We keep only the latest status, not a history.

Account security

When you sign in, fail to sign in or change your password, we record the time, your IP address, the approximate country it belongs to and the kind of device (for example “Chrome · Windows”). We use this only to protect accounts — for example to notice many wrong passwords. The country is a rough guess and can be wrong (VPNs, mobile networks). These records are deleted after 90 days.

Usage statistics

We use Vercel Analytics to count visits to our pages, without cookies. When you create an account we also note which website brought you to Wordnary (for example Google) and the first page you saw, so we know which pages help people start learning.

Who helps us run Wordnary

  • Supabase — database and login.
  • Vercel — hosting and visit statistics.
  • Sentry — crash reports, so we can fix errors.
  • Resend — emails such as feature news (only if you have not turned them off).
  • OpenAI — when you ask for feedback on a picture description, your text is sent to OpenAI to write the feedback.
  • Your browser — “Say it” uses the speech recognition built into your browser; some browsers (such as Chrome) send the audio to their maker (Google) to turn it into text.
  • Pictures in the dictionary may load from Pexels and Unsplash, which then see your IP address like any website.

Some of these companies store data outside your country.

Who at Wordnary can see your data

Only our team, and each person only what their work needs: support staff can see your account and progress to help you; analytics staff see learning numbers without your name or email; only owners and administrators see security records. Every staff action is recorded.

Your choices and rights

  • Turn off feature-news emails in Settings or with the link in every email.
  • Ask us for a copy of everything we store about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account — use “Contact us” on the start page, writing from your account’s email address.
  • If an account breaks our rules (for example spam), we can suspend it. Your learning data is kept and comes back if the account is reactivated.

Questions

Write to us with “Contact us” on the start page. If we change this page in an important way, we will tell you in the app.
